The governments of the Netherlands and Belgium have decided to prohibit the import of goods produced in Israeli settlements, a move that has received praise from Qatar. This action is seen by Qatar as a significant step in addressing the contentious issue of settlement activities within the occupied Palestinian territories.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement emphasizing that these bans align with global efforts to deter the expansion of settlements, which they argue contravenes international law. The ministry highlighted United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 as part of the legal framework opposing settlement growth.

Expressing optimism about the potential for broader international action, Qatar urged more nations to implement similar bans. The ministry called upon the global community to uphold its legal and ethical duties by pressing Israel to cease its settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian regions.

Reiterating its firm support for the Palestinian cause, Qatar underscored its commitment to a two-state solution. This solution envisions the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
