Tesla Roadster Prototype Showcases SpaceX Thrusters for Potential Flying Car

by admin477351

Elon Musk has introduced a groundbreaking prototype of the Tesla Roadster 2 equipped with rocket-thruster technology from his aerospace company, SpaceX. Demonstrated in Texas, the electric sports car impressed onlookers with its ability to drive up a curved ramp and utilize thrusters for aerial maneuvers before landing safely. This demonstration was conducted remotely to prioritize safety.

Musk envisions this vehicle as a potential flying car, capable of performing rolls and other complex movements using altitude controls and rear-mounted thrusters. However, he acknowledged that the car might not be legal in all jurisdictions due to its unique capabilities. Tesla has clarified that the flying features are not intended for use on public roads.

Production of the Roadster 2 is slated for 2028, with an expected price tag exceeding $200,000. Tesla plans to offer various versions of the vehicle, including a performance model and a specialized variant with a thrust system. Additionally, a single-seat rocket version featuring a complete flight system is proposed to be available by invitation only.

The demonstration of the Tesla Roadster 2 underscores Musk’s ambition to merge electric vehicle technology with rocket propulsion. Despite its impressive capabilities, the prototype raises questions about practical applications, safety standards, and regulatory approvals, which remain significant factors to consider as development continues.
