The director explained that his intention was to ensure the story resonates emotionally with today’s audiences, rather than sticking to period-accurate language.
The film’s trailer ignited discussion as viewers noticed characters speaking in contemporary vernacular despite the ancient Greek setting. Nolan responded to this feedback, clarifying that he prioritized emotional impact over historical authenticity in the dialogue. He described the choice as a straightforward one, though he acknowledged it might stir some controversy.
Adapted from The Odyssey, the movie narrates the epic tale of Odysseus’ prolonged journey back home following the Trojan War. Matt Damon takes on the role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway portraying Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.
This production marks Nolan’s most ambitious project to date, featuring a star-studded cast that includes Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. The film is set to debut in Indian cinemas on July 16, before rolling out to a wider international audience.
